Oil Pulling: How To Use Coconut Oil To Brighten Yout Teeth!
What Is Oil Pulling Exactly?
Oil pulling is the process of using an oil (coconut is most recommended) to “pull” the dirt and debris from your mouth and teeth. It is an oral remedy used for centuries. This tradition started in India thousands of years ago and was brought over to North America by a medical doctor.
Essentially you take 1 to 2 tablespoons of oil (again, coconut is probably your best bet!) and swish it around your mouth for about 20 minutes, then spit it out. You ideally want to do this daily for a few weeks to see results.
Benefits Of Oil Pulling
Oil pulling can help:
- Get rid of bad breath
- Kill bad bacteria and toxins
- Cut through plaque
- Cavity and gingivitis prevention
- Whiten teeth
- Heal cracked lips
Some use oil pulling to treat skin infections and acne as well. Coconut oil, in particular, has antibacterial properties making it a good choice for treating the mouth and skin!
Is It Safe?
Yupppp, pretty safe! Oil pulling is safe for anyone (including pregnant ladies!). It will not harm enamel or fillings. The only thing that may be bothersome is the actual act of swishing for 20 minutes… if may cause some jaw pain.
